The Sleek & Striking Powder Room Reveal
It’s POWDER ROOM REVEAL DAY!!! These past 6 weeks have flown by, but I’m so excited to finally get to share this space with all of you. So let’s not waste anymore time. Here it is, our sleek & striking powder room.
I can hardly believe this is the same space that we started with just 6 weeks ago!
Honestly, when we started this project, I was a little nervous with how it was going to turn out for a couple of reasons. The first being that the design of this space is so different from anything we’ve done in any of the other spaces in the Dreamhouse.
The majority of the rooms we’ve designed are modern, light, bright and airy, and though the aim for this space was to be sleek & modern, it has so much more of a dark, rich and moody vibe than anything we’ve done previously.
The second reason is, even though I had a fairly clear vision of the direction I wanted to take the space in, it’s often difficult (especially when you’re sharing everything on social media in real time) not to second guess yourself. After sharing our design direction, I began to worry that maybe I was trying to incorporate too much – that there would be too many competing elements in the space. And then I just decided to go for it, trust my gut and see where it took me.
The dark walls, & bold patterned wallpaper definitely push the boundaries of the design style you’ve seen thus far in our home. But yet, somehow it just works.
Our idea was to take the colours and style sensibilities we’ve used elsewhere in the Dreamhouse, and turn them on their heads to create a space that was bold and different, but yet still feels like it belongs.
And walking into this space now, I feel like it does just that.
I’m in love with this wall shelf from JYSK. The matte black against the black walls gives that perfect hint of modern geometric styling, but without competing with the other elements in the space. It also gives us a place to store a few pretty things as well as a couple of extra rolls of toilet paper.
I’m so incredibly in love with the walls. The Metrie Option {M}™ Modern Farmhouse shiplap we installed and painted black couldn’t have turned out more perfectly. They instantly transformed the space from boring to bold & dramatic.
Our DIY fabric wallpaper provides a beautiful contrast to offset the black walls. I love how the colours are carried in from our entry hallway and also play off the painted ceiling.
Our lighting from Kichler gives the space the perfect ambiance I was hoping it would. The inner gold highlight on the Roswell pendant and sconces are the perfect compliment to the gold faucet & accessories.
If you remember our initial design concept, you might have seen that we originally had a different faucet in mind. Looking at it now, I think we definitely made the right choice. The clean lines of the Delta Trinsic line keeps things simple and modern and I just love how the champagne bronze plays against the black.
We cut this little niche out in the wall to give us a place to inset the toilet paper holder. It also serves as a perfect little place to house a few magazines.
The mirror was a lucky clearance find at Homesense. It was black when we bought it, but I opted to spray paint it white to balance out the vanity.
And the way the wallpaper reflects is so fun!
This space is the smallest one in the house, but now it has just as much personality as the rest. It’s definitely one that we can now feel proud to have our guests use.
Before we go we need to send a HUGE thank you to our amazing sponsors on this project.

You guys!!! Well done! So many elements that I love, especially the contrast between the super dark and more bold walls with the softer floral fabric! Also, that magazine/toilet paper niche?! How amazing! Love it!
Thank you friend!! Those are all my favourite elements as well. 🙂 You know what they say about great minds…
It’s gorgeous! I really love the black shiplap and wallpaper combo! Beautiful work!
Thanks Emy! The contrast of the wallpaper and the shiplap together turned out even better than I expected.
Wowzers! How is this even the same space? I love a moody bathroom…so much magic!!!! Way to go!
Thanks so much Jewel!! Dark & moody is totally my jam! I just needed to find the right space in the house for it. 🙂
I love the contrast between the dark walls and floral wallpaper!
Thanks Mary! The bright floral wallpaper really does help to offset all of the black.
It isn’t often that I scroll a post super slowly and try to memorize photos corner-to-corner. But today, your moody bath made me stop and savor every little detail. I may not be an ORCer who takes decorating risks, but I absolutely love and appreciate those of you who do. Always stick with your gut instinct and follow your heart. And in the end, the results will be well done, sweet friend. Well done. XO
🙂 Thank you so much Susie!! You just completely made my day with your comment. This is definitely the biggest decorating risk we’ve taken. SO happy it paid off!! Thanks for the support. xo
It came out AH-MAZING, Tash! This is definitely a sleek looking powder room. The dark walls really work for this space. So impressed with the “faux” wallpaper you did. So clever!
Thank you Tee! I was really hesitant to go with that much dark in such a small room, but it really worked out. 🙂 The wallpaper is also one of my favourite elements in the space. Thanks for following along!!
Aaaaahhhh it’s amazing!! It all looks so good, but I especially love that little magazine/tp cut out – What a smart idea! The black shiplap looks amazing esp. with the blue ceiling. Great job!!
Thanks so much Casey! The tp/ magazine niche is a fun little detail eh? It worked out well. 🙂
The shiplap and wallpaper together is perfection!!! Love the dark and moody feel.
Thanks Libbie! I was a bit hesitant at first, but loving the dark & moody vibe now as well!
Love it! We’re using the same line (and same finish!) In our powder room!
Can’t wait to see how your space comes together! The Trinsic line really is a great choice. 🙂
Looks like it was a good choice to trust your gut! My favorite choice was the Kitchler Lighting. Great choice!
Thanks Jacalyn! We love the lighting too! It really completes the space even better than I hoped it would.
Absolutely gorgeous! So glad you trusted your instincts… they led you right to an amazing result!
Very zen like and tranquil.. excellent new look
Summery blue and white stripes transform a powder room by a pool into a tented beach cabana. The stripes on the ceiling mimic a peaked roof and help fool the eye into seeing a taller, loftier space. A floating sink means more room for storage underneath or more free visual space if you want your room to appear larger. This one designed by Studio DB pops against the floral wallpaper and black paint.
