Finding ‘light’ in the kindness of strangers…

It’s amazing how quickly karma can come back around. A couple of weeks ago we introduced the concept of Random Acts of Paint as a way of paying it forward. I’m a firm believer that if we all made an effort once in a while to do something nice for someone else there’d be a little more light in the world. As it happens, not more than a week later, Kes & I found ourselves on the receiving end of a random act of kindness that quite literally brought ‘light’ into our lives….

Last Friday we stopped in at a local plumbing & electrical supply store to pick up some conduit tubing that Kes will be using to run wiring & cables for our home automation system (I’ll get into that more in another post). What we failed to realize when we walked in however, was that the massive spool of conduit we were there to pick up had absolutely no chance of fitting in our car.

The GIANT spool of conduit tubing (once we finally got it home).

After several minutes of trying to maneuver the spool to force it into the trunk, back AND front seats of the car, we gave up & decided to try calling a taxi van. Apparently though, taxi companies won’t send a van for just one person regardless of how big a parcel they have with them. So with just minutes left before the store closed for the long weekend; and the hope of taking advantage of the holiday to run the conduit slipping away, fate stepped in.

Out came JR of Osso City Lighting (presumably after seeing the ridiculous sideshow of us fighting with the spool of conduit through the store window next door, lol) to ask if we needed a hand. We explained the situation & he offered to take the conduit into his store that would be open for a few more hours and hold on to it for us until we could go pick up my Dad’s truck. SCORE! Such a seemingly simple gesture for him, but one that was HUGE for us since it ultimately meant avoiding a lost weekend. :)  Upon returning to the store that evening, while Kes was loading the conduit into the truck, I ducked inside to once again thank JR for his kindness & wound up spending more than a few minutes looking around falling in love.

I’m completely in LOVE with everything about this…the chair the pillow and BOTH light fixtures. Seriously – how cool is that lighted pedestal the lamp is sitting on??

This chair tho!!

I’m officially coveting this light fixture. Would be amazing in the bedroom….look at the texture on the drum shade!

Having grown up in Oshawa, I’ve driven by Osso City Lighting on my way home many times – in recent years almost daily – and yet although I’ve often admired the prettiness in the window, I’d never actually been inside. I have a feeling I’ll be making up for a whole lot of lost time in the near future…

How incredible is this modern chair & ottoman?? Love the lamp to the left as well…

Love these tripod lamps!

Tripod lamps from another angle…

The selection of pendant lights was beyond!
I can so imagine these in my kitchen! Just the right mix of vintage & industrial with but a modern finish!

A family owned & operated business, Osso City Lighting has been a Durham region staple since it was opened by Marino Osso, the JR’s father & patriarch of the family, in 1984. They’re now heading into their 30th year in the business and its easy to see why they’ve lasted this long. Of course an awe inspiring selection of lighting, unique home furnishings & decor accents speaks for itself, but when your business is run by the kind of individuals who put people first – even those who might not be customers at the time – well that’s how you elevate yourself above the crowd.

Thanks again JR!

The Dreamhouse might not be quite ready for lighting just yet, but when it is, I know where we’ll be heading. ;)

Which one!!?! OMG there were so many in there that I wanted to take home with me on the spot…Just need to hurry up & get some walls first, and floors and well…heat. LOL!

haha — good point! The beige is my favourite because I’m a neutral-oholic! Yah, walls, floors and heat are good BUT dreaming about fun stuff is even better. :-)

Haha – true! Yea I’m a neutral-oholic myself but I lean more toward the greys. That chair is actually right in the middle between the two – though the pic didn’t really capture it. I love the floral detailing on the pillow too. Just enough frill to be girly without being over the top. :)

I love this story! I have never been in that store either, and I lived in Oshawa for like 15 years! Now I want to even more!

Omg, Thalita it’s awesome in there! And HUGE!! You should totally go. I was literally walking around in awe of all the beautiful fixtures and just when I thought I had reached the back of the store…there was a whole other room!
