Pulling all the elements together for a master bedroom makeover | The Dreamhouse Project

Well we’re into the home stretch of the One Room Challenge and though most of the previous weeks were filled with lots of planning & purchasing this week we finally started pulling this master bedroom makeover together. We’re in full execution mode and ready to bring the dream bedroom to life! Before we get into this week’s update, if you missed the previous 4 week’s you can go get yourself up to date here:

Progress update…

So after finally making the call on flooring, this week our first order of business was installing the hardwood.

As you know, replacing the carpet with hardwood wasn’t originally in our plan (or budget) for this particular project, but now that it’s done, I’m SO glad we decided to spring for it!

Our beautiful 5

We were fortunate enough to get to try out a brand new Ryobi 12″ Sliding Mitre Saw during the hardwood install and it absolutely made easy work of it! We’ll be posting a full review on the saw in another post so stay tuned for that!

We’ve begun bringing some colour into the room with these DIY faux roman blinds. Since both my husband and I love sleeping in a pitch dark room, we felt our choice might go well for the bedroom. We are only halfway through it and we are already excited! I’m super in love with the Modernist Joel Dewberry fabric we purchased from Fabric Spark. The colours in it are so fun and the purple tones are a perfect match to the PARA Pixie Pop (PF-3) we used on our barn doors.

I also made these DIY no sew throw pillows this week with I think will be a nice addition to the bedding – that is, once we’re finally able to get the bed into the room & assembled. I also splurged and decided to get a new mattress for my bed so that we could have the comfiest night’s sleep in our new bedroom, so you can check out this collection of mattresses if you want to see a similar selection of what we chose! There are so many different styles and types of mattresses to choose from if you are also completing a bedroom makeover or just want a better night’s sleep.

Speaking of which, we still have one large DIY left to accomplish. Getting the pallet feature wall installed will be this weekend’s mission. Once that’s completed we can finally get everything put back together.

So that’s our plan. Still lots to do and just a few short days to get her all camera ready! Right now I’m feeling a mix of excitement & anxiety about the amount of work (and most likely late nights) ahead of us in order to pull this off. What do you think?? Are we crazy?

Before we go, let’s take one final look at our to-do list.

To do:

  • Purchase new bed
  • Finish disassembling pallets
  • Clean & stain reclaimed pallet wood
  • Empty bedroom of existing furniture
  • Paint bedroom walls
  • Paint doors & trim
  • Attempt to have carpets cleaned
  • Rip out carpet & install hardwood
  • Install pallet feature wall
  • Install sconces
  • Purchase nightstands
  • Assemble new bedroom furniture
  • Mount tv
  • Style & accessorize room

It’s so satisfying to see just a few remaining items left to be crossed off with the final countdown on. I can’t wait to see the room finally come together and share it with all of you!
