Blogging Singlehandedly
Pardon the pun. Today I'm quite literally blogging singlehandedly - as in with one hand - since my right hand has been reduced to a club confined to a cast for the time being. Sigh
The great countertop debate pt. 3
Today we're continuing the conversation on countertop surfaces we're considering for the kitchen. In part 1 we drooled all over quartz, part 2 focused on the pros & cons of Corian, and this final instalment is all about polished concrete. Kes and I are BIG fans of polished concrete. I think mostly because it reminds us of those modern converted lofts that we love so much. There's just something cool, sleek & sexy about it
The great countertop debate pt. 2
If you've been following along, yesterday we kicked off our discussion of the various countertop surfaces we're considering for our kitchen. In part 1 we shared our ultimate love for quartz. Today we'll be taking a closer look at Corian. Again for the newbies, Corian itself is not a type of material. It's actually just the most popular brand of solid surface countertops made by DuPont. It's manufactured by blending acrylic polymers and stone-derived materials into a mix which is then poured into molds. This method allows for integrated sinks, which no other material offers. Some of the other pros include: A wide
The great countertop debate pt. 1
In working through the space planning & design with Lisa, we've begun talking about some of the interior finishes & materials for the various rooms. When the topic of kitchen counters came up our immediate first thought was quartz - for obvious reasons. For the countertop newbies out there let me break it down for you
Scoping out the ‘hood
It's June!! And with the arrival (finally) of warmer temperatures we've been itching to enjoy the outdoors. So yesterday after taking some time with Lisa to do an interior design walk through of the house, we decided to venture out for a walk around the neighbourhood. We headed down to the foot of our street where there is an entrance to the Waterfront trails and had a little sneak peek of how we'll get to spend our summers for the foreseeable future. Off to scope out the neighborhood! Path to the waterfront trail It's so AWESOME to have all this, literally just steps from
Burgers with a view…
It's the long weekend!! So to kick things off right, we thought we'd grab a couple of folding chairs and get a little preview of how we'll get to spend our evenings once the house is done...
Happy Mother’s Day
Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful Moms out there! Especially mine who didn't hesitate to take us all in while we embarked on this journey to build our Dreamhouse. Mom, we appreciate you in more ways than we could ever express! You've taught me what it is to be a great mom, and I hope I can do the job justice. My little guy made this for me at school. I think its pretty awesome! Apparently I want to be a witch when I grow up
The week in review…
Canada's wonderland, business trips, shopping, fake birthdays, and new trades at the Dreamhouse. It's been quite the week! Here's a "snapshot" of what we've been up to...
This puppy’s got a roof!
The roofers were on site yesterday so we stopped by the Dreamhouse this morning to snap a quick pic of the progress - not bad for a day's work eh? We've spent the last couple of weeks reassessing the budget & getting new quotes for the next phase (plumbing, electrical, HVAC etc.) to get the numbers back on track after the few snags we hit early on with the demo, permit costs & some of the lumber overages during framing. So after many days of nothing but phone calls, emails & meetings (for Kevin), it's pretty exciting to finally see a
