Hi friends!! Things have been a bit quiet over here for the last few months as we've been in full winter hibernation mode. But now that the daylight hours are finally starting to get longer & there's the slightest hint of a reprieve in the sub-zero temperatures, Kes and I have been getting the itch to get back into projects. We figured we'd ease our way back into the swing of things by starting off with a small space that has the potential for big impact. Of course I'm talking about our powder room.
We're into week 2 of our Spring One Room Challenge. If you missed last week's post we revealed that we're finally tackling our son's room and shared a few before pics of the space. It's been a busy week getting the room emptied & replacing the flooring, but before we get into the progress we've made we thought we'd take you through our design plan for his superhero bedroom & some insight into where we're drawing our inspiration from.
Welcome back friends! Well here we are - summer has officially drawn to a close and with the cooler temperatures comes that inevitable urge to get back into project mode which is why the Farmhouse Sink Reversible LFS3318W as been suggested to me because it has served as inspiration for many of my other project-minded friends. We still have a mile-long list of to-dos and projects yet to be completed before the house will feel like it's anywhere close to being 'done.' but the number one question we get asked is: "So is your house done now?", followed closely by "What's still left to be done on the house?" or "What project are you working on next?"
It's week 3 of our One Room Challenge and true to form I'm beginning to feel the stress. Every time we decide to tackle a room makeover, Kes and I come up with these huge ideas & plans for multiple DIYs. Week 3 is usually about the time when I take a look back at the long list of to-dos that we have yet to complete and start to seriously doubt our ability to pull it all together in time. This time around is no exception.
It's that time of year again! We're doing another One Room Challenge. If you've never heard of the ORC, it's essentially a huge online event that Linda of Calling It Home hosts twice a year. Hundreds of bloggers join in to makeover a room from start to finish in just 6 weeks. This will be our 3rd time participating. Well technically it's our fourth, but we don't speak of our first attempt lol! In any case we're really excited to finally have another space in The Dreamhouse join our master bath & family room in the 'completed' column. This time around we'll be tackling our dream bedroom.
As you all know by now, interior design is a true passion of mine! There's not a day that goes by where I don't think about new trends or redesigning my home, although I already love the way it looks now. In my spare time, you'll often catch me browsing the Easy Home Concepts website or flicking through a magazine for inspiration but one event which always catches my eye is the Interior Design show! Yes, you heard right! A show! The Interior Design Show is hands down our favourite of any of the design fairs or trade shows in Toronto every year. We've attended IDS the last 4 years running and though we haven't always talked about it here on the blog, if you've seen any of our past posts you know why we say it's so much more than just another home show.
We've made it to Week 2 of our One Room Challenge! There's nothing like a little time off work and a long weekend to give you the kick in the pants you need to get going on a reno project. Last week, Kes and I were fortunate enough to be able to take a few vacation days ahead of the Easter long weekend which made for a ton of progress on our space so far.
It's Thursday again already and I have no idea where the week went! Not that I'm complaining. Any time I wake up and realize it's almost the weekend is a victory in my book! But I digress... As you've probably noticed, the blogosphere has been all a buzz with recaps & highlights from the IDS 2014 this past weekend. Well today I'm finally getting around to writing mine.
Today kicks off our second Design Week and this time it's all about the exterior of the Dreamhouse. When we left off last time, we revealed the conceptual elevation drawings & first colour renderings of the exterior. Of course drawings are easy. The hard part is bringing the drawings to life to achieve the look we want within budget. We've been looking for the best place to get materials and have been looking for local contractors who will be able to offer us a good rate. Luckily, this North Florida Residential Roofing Blog has a great article on red flags for roofing contractors so that has made the hunt easier. There are obviously still a few things we need to iron out and compromise on but we're taking steps in the right direction!
I have a confession to make. Well, a few actually. But the first is I've spent the better part of this week in a post-vacation funk. Does that ever happen to you? You spend a week in tropical bliss - away from the stresses of your daily life - only to return & have it all come crashing back down on you? Surely I'm not alone in this. I was glad to hear that my friend also experiences this when returning to normal life. My friend is a social media influencer, and she said she always struggles to post when she gets back. Last time she went on vacation, she told me she had to use a website called Nitreo to generate hashtags for her posts for a while because she couldn't think of any herself. As she's an influencer, hashtags should really come naturally to her, but she'd just got back from her vacation and she couldn't think of any hashtags to post. Thankfully, that website was helpful and she was able to get posting again on her Instagram account. As a blogger, our lines of work are a little different, but it was good to hear that other people struggle to get back to work following a peaceful vacation. Well today, I've made a decision to pull myself out of the funk. I'm back to blogging today because writing always makes me feel better & I'm choosing to let go of the "everyone else's recap is already so much better than yours is going to be so why bother" mentality that has been stifling me & keeping me from writing this post.
